This month we reviewed The Hiding Place. I have read the book several times, and it gets better each time. There was a great discussion during the book club and everyone really enjoyed the book. I am really glad I decided to join the book club. I look forward to and enjoy it each month.
On Monday we went to the Utah Healing Field 9/11 Memorial for FHE. It was an incredible experience.
The field was in Sandy, Utah and had a flag for each of the lives lost during the terrorist attacks ten years ago. The flags were grouped by flight number and then those lost at the Pentagon and World Trade Center. It was an amazing sight to see. Each flag had a tag attached which shared information about a person who died as a result of the attack.
There were over 3,000 flags on display. Nathan had heard during one of his training sessions a few years ago, that an employee of BMW had died during the attacks. It was by pure luck that we found her flag. It states that Linda was a manager of environmental compliance for BMW and “spearheaded the development of a hydrogen-fueled car.”
At one pathway between the flags there was a young Marine who had a lot of attention and patiently stood as many asked to take his picture with the flags. I got a little teary-eyed during this for many reasons, but mostly I just couldn’t believe how young he is.
Finally, the City of Sandy had a monument unveiled earlier in the week. The monument is called Hope Rising and was beautiful.
Dylan had his first soccer game today. It was so cute!!! They play the kids 3 on 3 and it is tons of fun to watch. His jersey number is 2 and he thinks that is so cool.
This is Dylan, somewhat in action, scoring a goal!! I thought it was great that the opposing team’s coach gave him a high-5!
Yes, soccer is all about having fun. But, Dylan, how many goals did you score? (That’s a 3 he’s holding up) Technically, he scored 4, but one was for the other team! He was just helping out!!
Avery and Lindsey performed a dance for us as a half-time show.
Dylan’s good friend, Ryan, is on the same team. Their team name is the Green Hornets.
Dylan did such a good job. We are very proud of him. Also, thank you Nana and Bumpa for driving up to be at his first game.
Yesterday, I completed reading the Book of Mormon in 40 days. What an amazing experience! It is something I do each year. This time as I read, I developed such a great love for the prophets that we learn from in this book. I came to know them as individuals and to suffer and rejoice with them as I would a friend. I love that I am able to learn something new, grow as a person and become closer to my Savior each time I read from the pages of the Book of Mormon. My love and appreciation for Joseph Smith, his sacrifices, and the great faith it took for him to translate this book are immeasurable. How blessed I am to have the gospel in my life, to have scriptures and modern day prophets to help lead and guide me.
Thank you everyone for sharing in my goal of reading 52 books this year. Finishing the Book of Mormon is officially (though not really) my 52nd book. What an amazing journey!!
Dylan lost his first tooth last night. It has been loose for quite some time, and while his daddy was helping him brush his teeth, it finally came out. There was a lot more blood than I was anticipating, but we dealt with it and everyone is ok.
Early this morning I went to place Dylan’s Tooth Fairy money under his pillow, but couldn’t find his tooth. I later told Nathan I couldn’t find Dylan’s tooth and he told me the Tooth Fairy had already come. What a cute husband I have!!!
Dylan started Kindergarten this past Monday. He is in Ms. French’s class, in the morning. So far, he is really enjoying his class and has made lots of new friends, that I get to hear about each day. On his first day, he did great and no tears were shed (by either of us) and I think I was more hesitant than he was. I’m very proud of him!
The other night we tried our perogi maker. We got very creative, to say the least. We stuffed them with ham and cheese, cinnamon roll stuff, peanut butter and jelly, cookie dough, a Reese’s cup, chicken enchilada soup (drained), smores stuff, and soggy cereal (that was Nathan’s idea). We learned a few things; we need to roll the dough thinner, and not put so much stuff in them. Most of them were good, some very messy, but we had a good time!
