Girls Camp, Day 2, Thursday

Thursday we went to do baptisms at the Provo Temple and then on to Deer Creek Lake to play in the water and have some lunch.

While at the lake, one of the Laurels, Shannon, and I were undefeated in playing Chicken against the other girls and leaders!

Then craft, dinner, devotional, more games and finally bedtime.  Thursday night the girls quieted down a little earlier, around 12:30am, versus 3:30am on Wednesday night!

I forgot to add a few game pictures from the night before.  Most of them involved dancing in some form.

Girls Camp

Where to begin?  This year girls camp was a lesson in learning to roll with the changes, and roll we did.

On June 23 our Beehive advisors husband, was struck by a drunk driver and killed instantly.  He left behind his wife, Debbie, and a 7-year old daughter and 5-year old son, who has autism.  The ward, and especially the Young Women, were stunned and many tears fell.  We learned early on Monday, that the funeral was scheduled for Wednesday at 10am, and we were scheduled to leave for camp at 10:30am that same day.  Plans were quickly rearranged and we rescheduled to leave at 4:00pm on Wednesday so that we could support our friend and leader by attending the funeral.  Later on Monday, we found out that fires had blocked the roads to the cabin we were supposed to stay at and the flames were moving closer, then within 15 miles.  We had 48 hours to completely plan camp, from scratch.  Our original plans were centered around the Manti temple; doing baptisms for the dead, attending the pageant, etc.  Luckily, a few long hours later we found another cabin in Heber to stay at and called an emergency meeting to plan camp again, in a new location. 

Well, we did it.  Not without a few bumps and more down time than we had wanted, but we did it.  The girls were more than understanding, didn’t complain at all and went along with everything we did.  Here are the highlights:

Stake Youth Conference

This year the theme was, ‘The Rescue Games.’  It was a 3-day conference, with one overnight stay at Payson Lakes.  At the lakes the kids were divided into districts and had to play different games that involved rescuing.  Our ward was in charge in of “Bind Up That Which is Broken.”  We had the kids have to put together a stretcher and carry the ‘victim’ a certain distance.  It was really fun to watch!

On Friday once we were home from the lakes we indexed the 1940 census.  I had never done indexing before and really enjoyed it!  Saturday was baptisms for the dead, lunch and a testimony meeting.  I am grateful for the support of my husband, parents and friends so that I was able to be at the entire conference.

6 Weeks and Growing

Here is our garden at six weeks. 

We have also had success with radishes.  Unfortunately, only Nathan likes them, so we had way too many.  These are the first we pulled.

Some Catching Up

Wow, the last few weeks have been busy, to say the least.  I am so behind on blogging, so I am going to get some random pictures posted, and then I will update on Youth Conference, Girls’ Camp and a visit from Nathan’s brothers.

For Mother’s Day, my parents help me get the front garden looking better.  It looks great and I appreciate all of their hard work.

The kids have had  tons of fun doing “summertime” things.

Finally, Nathan got his motorcycle all together, and the kids had fun sitting on it.
